The Comanche Chief, Comanche, Texas, 8 October 1881
Roll of Honor
The following list of pupils stood nearest perfect in deportment and scholarship at the Comanche public school during the past month:
Camille FLEMING, Ella LOWERY, Kittie MOTTWILLER, Lina WRIGHT, Dexter WALCOTT, Lizie WHITT, Alice LOGAN, Lectra WRIGHT.
The Heavy rain last week put a damper upon the camp meeting, and the army, which was battling against Satan’s host, retreated beneath the more protecting roof of the Methodist church, where the good fight has been vigorously continued for the past week. Reverends GAISER, STOCKTON and McMURRAY have made effective onslaughts-as it were– upon the enemy, and caused over twenty of them to unconditionally surrender. Rev. HENRY, we are sory to learn, had to retire to his bed, owing to illness. The meeting will probably conclude tomorrow night.
Prof J.W. TIMMINS is reading law at Huntsville, Texas.
Rev. W.D. SARTWELLE and family and Miss Mary TUCKER departed for Weatherford this week, where they will reside in the future.
Mr. J.E. CANAN has accepted a position in the reliable house of Dickson & Green.
A.G. RICE, formerly a substantial merchant of Sipe Springs, we hear, recently ended a sea of trouble which had engulfed him of late, by committing suicide at Toyah, by taking morphine.
